Kherson Region is an oblast in southern Ukraine, just north of Crimea. Its administrative center is Kherson. The area of the region is 29000 sq.km, its population (as of 2004-05-01) is 1.12 million.

The Kherson Region is bordered by the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on the north, the Black Sea and the Crimea on the south, the Mykolayiv Oblast on the west and the Azov Sea and the Zaporizhzhia Oblast on the east. The Dnieper River runs through the region which includes the Kakhovka Reservoir.
The population of the oblast is 1,367,685 (2004), which 2.4% of the total population of Ukraine. It is also ranked 21st by its population. The population density is 43 p/sg.km

On the territory of this land powerful Dnieper River flows into the Black Sea. It is nice to observe tawrian meadows and melon plantation, Dnieper picturesque sights, and velvet Black Sea beaches of Skadowsk, Kinburn and Tendry.
This land contains the biggest number of preserves in the state. The Black sea biosphere preserve of the world importance is the place where rare floated birds nest. It is the biggest preserve on the territory of Ukraine which represents various landscapes of the southern seashore lands of Ukraine. The most notable part of this preserve is Tendrivska spit which stretch for 80 km. The preserve is a real bid's kingdom. It contains 305 species of birds of which 110 nest on the territory of preserve and others can be met during wintering and migrations.
